Caution: This article divulges spoilers from the ninth episode of the second season of And Just Like That. In this week’s installment, Carrie Bradshaw and fans of Sex and the City were introduced to Aidan’s former wife onscreen for the first time. Rosemarie DeWitt, known for her roles in The Staircase and La La Land, made a surprise appearance as Kathy. Interestingly, DeWitt has a connection to the Sex and the City universe beyond her character. She is married to Ron Livingston, who famously portrayed Carrie’s ex-boyfriend, Berger, the one who dumped her with a Post-It Note.
Until now, viewers only had bits of information about this enigmatic woman. She is an interior designer whom Aidan Shaw, played by John Corbett, met and married during the timeline of Sex and the City. In an episode of the original series’s sixth season, Carrie had an encounter with Aidan, during which she met his first child, Tate (also known as “Tater”). Later, it was revealed in the second Sex and the City movie that Aidan and Kathy had two more sons, Homer and Wyatt.
As Aidan reenters Carrie’s life in the second season of And Just Like That, she informs her friends that he has divorced Kathy and moved with their children to Virginia. In the latest episode, Kathy’s character is finally brought to life onscreen. She invites Carrie for a private talk about their current situation. Kathy appeals to Carrie not to write about her children in any capacity, even in the future, and reminds her not to hurt Aidan emotionally. She clearly knows the history between them. The reasons behind Aidan and Kathy’s separation remain unknown, but it is evident that it is still a sensitive topic for Kathy. She becomes visibly overwhelmed upon learning that Carrie is moving to a bigger apartment to accommodate potential visits from the boys.
DeWitt joins a star-studded guest lineup for the second season of And Just Like That, which has already featured appearances by Tony Danza, Candice Bergen, Gloria Steinem, Billy Dee Williams, Victor Garber, Drew Barrymore, Oliver Hudson, Julie Halston, and Gary Dourdan, among others. Viewers are eagerly anticipating the arrivals of Sam Smith and Kim Cattrall, who played the iconic Samantha Jones. DeWitt was most recently heard voicing a role in the animated AMC+ series Pantheon and seen in the films The Estate, starring Toni Colette and Anna Faris, and the HBO miniseries The Staircase. Additionally, she will appear in the upcoming fourth season of Amazon’s The Boys, portraying the long-lost mother of Hughie Campbell, played by Jack Quaid. And Just Like That’s second season is available to stream on Thursdays on Max.
